Johann Bayer immigrated to the USA in 1957 and trained as a blacksmith. With his sons, he started Bayer Blacksmith in 1981. His portfolio includes brass work in the lobby of the Drake Hotel and transformation of a Canadian icebreaker into the Chicago Yacht Club. Son Art discovered an affinity for the construction side of the business and founded Bayer Builders in 1991. Two of Art's sons, John and Aaron, joined the business after completing a carpentry apprenticeship in Chicago (John) and a roofing apprenticeship in Alaska (Aaron). John and Aaron continue in their grandpa's footsteps. From Loop to the far north and west suburbs, successful projects and satisfied customers show the Bayers' continued commitment to detail.
The Bayer Builders business model is unique. The family has a strong history as craftsmen, but John and Aaron were also trained in the fast-paced, competitive fields of carpentry and roofing. Combining artistry with fast, professional work means Bayer Builders can both execute innovative projects and quickly turn a home for resale. Many businesses focus on speed OR quality; Bayer Builders believes these must go hand-in-hand.

Bayer Builders is a family business comprised of three generations of veterans. Meet the family:
John Bayer oversees Bayer Builders. He is a union-trained carpenter who built many new homes in the Chicago area. He is happiest when he can escape the office to swing a hammer. John continued a three-generation family tradition by serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Contact John.
Aaron Bayer is the foreman at Bayer Builders and supervises the project crew. In addition to managing numerous projects, Aaron has extensive roofing experience. Chicago winters are rough on roofs, but Aaron trained in Alaska! Contact Aaron.
Art Bayer, founder of the original Bayer Builders business, is a craftsman with an artist’s eye. He particularly enjoys detail work and unique projects. He consults with his sons on projects to ensure they're not just solidly built, but beautiful. Art started his construction career as a combat engineer in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Dan Bayer is the owner of Bayer Builders Alaska and splits his time between Alaska and Chicago. He inherited his dad's eye for detail and brings a little bit of Chicago to Alaska. Check out Dan's work.
Johann Bayer, now retired, still enjoys tinkering. He instilled in his sons and grandsons a strong work ethic, sense of respect for employees, and a drive for customer service that is hard to find in today’s contracting world.
